Head shot Swap | Raleigh, NC Photographer

A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of meeting up with 11 amazingly talented local photographers for a Head shot Swap at the gorgeous wedding and event venue, Mim’s House.  If you or someone you know is planning a wedding, a bridal shower, bridal portraits, etc, I highly recommend this place. It’s beautiful! It was built in 1840 and is located in Holly Springs, NC.

Since becoming a Shoot & Share photographer I have been lucky enough to be part of the Shoot & Share community where I have been inspired and educated by many photographers from all over the world. A few photographers have initiated a movement called “Community Over Competition”. Since becoming a photographer almost 5 years ago, I soon realized how competitive this industry was, everyone who had a camera decided to go into business. Many photographers on many online forums can be quite mean to fellow photographers, I have seen some very harsh comments from all levels of experience and it was truly disheartening. With this new mantra, I have realized to stop judging myself over another photographer’s work and belittle myself because I feel my work is inadequate. We all struggle in different ways and need a helping hand. Photographers are reaching out and helping each other, having local meet ups, and sharing wisdom with each other rather than competing each other. Check out the #communityovercompetition on Instagram to see who else has joined the movement!!

We all did our introductions with a little background info regarding photography and what cameras and lenses we work with. Then we ventured out into groups and took some great pictures! It was really fun to see how others view the same location and how they pose the subject. A lot of us used the same model in the same location and poses, yet we all had different angles, cameras and lenses, and editing styles. It was a lot of fun to see how everyone’s pictures turned out. It was a little nerve wracking being on the other side of the camera especially having 10 cameras on you at once!! I decided to let myself go and enjoy it. I don’t have very many pictures of myself because I am always trying to capture the moment rather than being in it.

A few of use went out to dinner at The Mason Jar Tavern in Holly Springs to get to know each other a little better. It was really fun to reach out to other photographers and share tips and tricks and also create that referral network. I cant wait until our next #communityovercompetition meet up!!

Kat - What a fun idea! I love my photographer friends and think something like this would be a blast. I know it can get really rough out there so it is always great to have a few good friends in the same industry that understand the struggles that we all go through and that you can talk together with!ReplyCancel
